This is just a small selection of books covering the South African Defence Force. The "reviews" on this page are not my own words as I've only read 2 or 3 of these books but I'm sure they are all worth reading if you are seriously interested in SADF related literature. The best graphic book by far though, is the one by Willem Steenkamp I'd say.

Possibly the best book ever written on South Africa's military involvement in southern Africa. It reveals more about the battles fought by the SADF than most people are aware of, and together with loads of graphic images, boasts an in-depth coverage from 1966 to 1989. Along with special sections on relevant military units like the "Recces", and 32 Battalion, there are also important sections on the political decision making that took place behind the scenes.

Buffalo Soldiers

Nine Days of War
South Africa’s Final days in Namibia

By the 1st of April 1989, in terms of the UN supervised peace deal, the South Africans had demobilised the SWA Territory Force, drastically reduced the strength of the SADF in Namibia and confined the rest to their bases. Meanwhile, more than 1600 heavily armed SWAPO fighters were massing along the southern Angolan border. This book is about the final days of conflict.
